Inscribing the Ground:
The memorial incorporates bands of light into its landscape. These bands display the names of all 3,022 victims on 3'-3" wide LED panels in a scrolling alphabetical sequence. This feature of the memorial design has two important implications. First, the memorial will become visible and accessible from a distance, particularly from above the memorial site at its raised perimeter and from surrounding towers. Second, the use of LED panels will allow the memorial to function both day and night, providing a variety of settings for visitors to encounter the space.
